In the trailers for Tears of the Kingdom , Link and Zelda find Ganondorf sealed away underground. Additionally, chunks of land are launched into the sky by Malice. Both of these concepts suggest that Tears of the Kingdom may allow Link and Zelda to explore below ground, spelunking into long-forgotten caverns and unearthing ancient ruins. Some sparser areas of Breath of the Wild ’s map may be populated by these new ruins, like Arbiter’s Grounds in the Gerudo Wasteland. In Breath of the Wild they are barely visible above the sand, but if they rose up they could form a new dungeon recalling Twilight Princess ’ own Arbiter’s Grou
In Breath of the Wild , Link has a variety of abilities at his disposal to help him navigate the world and defeat his enemies. The majority of these come from the Sheikah Slate, a mystical artifact left to him by Princess Zelda. With it, he can create bombs, manipulate metal, freeze water into climbable pillars, and even stop time for enemies or inanimate objects. Other powers come from the spirits of his friends, the former Champions who lost their lives fighting Calamity Ganon 100 years prior. From what’s been shown of Tears of the Kingdom so far, it’s uncertain if these powers will return, but thankfully there will be others to take their pl
Traditional Zelda dungeons in Tears of the Kingdom would address one of the criticisms of Breath of the Wild , where the puzzles being spread out and the presence of the Divine Beasts left some players missing the dungeons from previous Zelda games. Dungeons generally have Link complete them so that he obtains a reward at the end that helps him with his quest to save Hyrule, like awakening the Sages in Ocarina of Time and collecting their medallions. The image of seven tears in the TOTK trailer could imply that Link will be heading into more traditional Zelda dungeons to gather those te
Depending on how deeply time travel is intertwined with Tears of the Kingdom ‘s story, it’s also possible that Link will be traveling back and forth through time. There could be two concurrent stories with their own plot threads in Zelda BOTW 2 , one that takes place in the past and another in the present. Being transported as each story progresses and needing to complete quests to go back and forth doesn’t seem likely given the open-world format focused on player freedom, and neither does a sudden shift halfway through akin to Ocarina of Time , but it’s possible that players will be able to travel between the past and present at will instead. However, two separate maps – each one a fair bit larger than BOTW ‘s Hyrule due to the floating islands – feels like far too much to be within reason, and small self-contained areas of the past or present akin to BOTW ‘s Shrines don’t seem likely either based on what’s been shown so far. There are certainly other ways this concept could be utilized in BOTW ‘s sequel without ruining its story or gameplay, however, and they may become more apparent as additional information becomes availa
The kingdom of Hyrule was established by Zelda and the Hero of Sky after the events of Skyward Sword , and its name was chosen in honor of the Goddess Hylia. As Hyrule is threatened by Ganon’s curse of malice in each era, however, Hylia’s failure to defeat The Legend of Zelda ‘s Demise before her mortal reincarnation has essentially doomed her peaceful kingdom to cyclical suffering. In a sense, Hylia serves as both the protector of Hyrule as well as the mechanism behind which its very timeline can be woven and unraveled. As such, Tears of the Kingdom may be a grim but fitting name indicating that Hyrule’s god-princess will mourn the fate of her kingdom upon realizing the true extent of her power’s role throughout its hist
The other part of the rumor comes from both the images of Link with a broken Master Sword and the mention in Breath of the Wild that Fi’s spirit is dormant within it. Even if Demise doesn’t make an appearance in Tears of the Kingdom , it seems likely that Fi will. She’s referenced multiple times in BOTW , with her signature sound effect even playing, and zeldatearshub.Com she did hope to meet one of Link’s future incarnations. But as one of the safeguards against Demise, it seems more likely that they would both appear in TOTK instead of only one or the other being inclu
As Link explores the BOTW sequel’s transformed skies , he will be able to use at least three abilities that have been shown in trailers so far. There are other new items for Link to use, such as a large device that shoots flames, but this looks like a temporary weapon and not something that he will have access to all the time. Though it’s not confirmed, it would appear that at least some of Link’s powers comes from his new arm, which could mean that it will serve a purpose similar to BOTW ‘s Sheikah Slate. This arm has been a subject of great interest since it was first revealed, and from what’s been shown so far, it will have no small amount of importance to both story and gamep
