The Chosen can be defeated by performing a series of covert operations and a tough final assassination mission, a process which takes some time. Don’t take too long, though: these aren’t static enemies. The longer they exist, the more strength they have. That isn’t to say they don’t have weakness either, as they follow a nemesis system that takes heavy inspiration from the likes of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor . They’re easily the most difficult addition to the game, but they add plenty of flavor to the experience and much satisfaction when they’re finally taken d
The PSP re-release of Final Fantasy Tactics was mostly just the PS1 game’s graphics. The one big addition the port got was animated cutscenes drawn in a style that fit the game’s theme. That is what this game and its predecessor, Octopath Traveler, lacked. The in-game animations are fine but they still look goofy. Square Enix definitely has the budget for cutscenes since this style is trying to harken back to the PS1 days alre
The tactical and ever so nail-biting strategy game is back as Firaxis and 2K Games revealed XCOM 2 prior to E3 2015. Now players will be able to experience the deaths of even more comrades as their memorial continues to grow. While Enemy Unknown was a surprise hit, Firaxis is looking to up their game by introducing procedural maps, mods and even more to this SLG PC Games exclusive. During our time at E3 this year, we sat down with Art Director Greg Foertsh at Firaxis Games to talk about their upcoming title.
A soldier with a fully loaded assault rifle could potentially attack eight times in one turn, and players would have to manually activate every attack. Thankfully, Musashi thought of all the suffering gamers out there and made this simple UI change that adds a Lost Autofire option , permanently, to the action bar. Sit back and relax as hordes of Lost are cleared out with two simple cli
The Battle Scanner and Scanning Protocol can help reveal the map from a safe distance. With the introduction of Reapers in the XCOM 2: War of the Chosen DLC , players can more easily use concealment between fights. Knowing where the pods are roaming allows players to more easily engage one at a time, greatly reducing the risk of accidentally pulling more than they can han
In short, it’s a system that finally forces players to shuffle their rosters as the game progresses, and a clever solution to those who send the same soldiers into battle again and again. The challenges of maintaining a healthy roster of skilled soldiers adds plenty of surprising depth to the XCOM experie
Sometimes, even when everything is done right, the stars will align against the players and threaten their whole squad. When this happens, players should not hesitate to give up on the mission and safely Evac their soldiers as a free action. The consequences of failing a mission are often much less punishing than losing the best soldiers. Additionally, when making decisions that might leave a soldier exposed, such as rushing forward with a Ranger and having it miss, players should instead consider using Evac to save that soldier if it is likely they will die during the enemy’s t
To survive Ironman runs, it can be helpful for players to prepare for failure. XCOM 2 is famous for occasionally feeling unfair due to having a high percentage of shots missed or having a soldier behind full cover instantly die to a critical hit from an enemy alien . These unlucky occasions are the most punishing during the early game when XCOM 2 is at its deadliest. As such, players should be prepared to accept some bad luck and persev
In the heat of war, especially war against terrifyingly advanced alien overlords who have already taken over the world, injuries will happen. In the base game, soldiers could sleep them off. Not with the Augmentations mod , which adds another layer of depth to soldier upkeep. This mod makes it so that grave wounds cannot be healed without cybernetic augmentati
Thankfully, user KongMD, also apparently fed up with the incessant interruptions, made the Narrative Control mod to silence the beloved war hero. Navigating the Avenger’s many rooms and menus will now be a quieter experience as all narrative moments are muted. KongMD also included instructions for further narrative exclusions — such as Avatar Project progress reports — but it requires some light code modification. It’s worth it, though. Players may miss out on some info referenced in Chimera Squad , but it is a small price to
While XCOM 2: War of the Chosen does a great job shaking up the game from top to bottom, it isn’t without cost: the Shen’s Gift DLC mission is sacrificed by default to rebalance the game, being replaced with a simple research task. While player’s can re-enable this in the options menu, we wish there was a way Firaxis could have kept the original content in balanced fashion. We also ran into a few minor glitches as late-game content progressed, so we recommend those trying ironman playthroughs perhaps consider a regular playthrough for now to avoid any potential post-launch err
