Originally due for release this past March, The Sinking City was delayed to June 27. This gave the game one last opportunity to be shown off at E3, where it made an appearance during the Kinda Funny Games Showcase. The Sinking City looks to blend detective gameplay as seen in the Sherlock Holmes series with Lovecraftian horror, which is a concept that seems to have plenty of potential. With The Sinking City due out by the end of the month , horror game fans don’t have to wait too much longer to find out if it’s able to deliver on its promising prem
Conker’s Bad Fur Day was a cult classic on the Nintendo 64, notable for pushing its M for Mature rating to the limit. The game was vulgar and violent, but also quite good, with a fun story and addicting multiplayer modes. Since then, Conker has largely been relegated to obscurity, mirthwood rpg getting a graphical update on the original Xbox and being featured in episodic format for the canceled Project Spark . Similarly to Banjo-Kazooie , Microsoft has seemingly refused to take proper advantage of Conker and the popularity of the IP, but hopefully that changes with a proper Conker’s Bad Fur Day sequel on Xbox Serie
Players take on the role of a straight and honest-to-a-fault cop named Cole Phelps as he rises through the ranks as a detective. Fans of beautifully crafted open worlds will love L.A. Noire. The themes and style appear to be inspired by the classic movie L.A. Confidential. Admittedly, there is a lack of activities in the detective drama, but the twists and surprises will keep fans entertai
Silent Hill 2 from 2001 stands as one of the greatest horror games ever made and pushed the medium forward with its nuanced story about guilt, trauma, and lust. The next entry was a worthy successor, though the series never again reached the second game’s artistic heights. Things looked up in 2014 when Silent Hills was announced through the enigmatic demo P.T. The title, a collaboration between Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro, was tragically canceled by Konami due to their drastic business restructuring. It doesn’t look like a proper Silent Hill follow up will come anytime soon. At least Kojima moved on to release Death Stranding , one of the year’s most unique AAA tit
Supermassive Games debuted on the horror scene in a big way with the hit PS4 exclusive Until Dawn . Despite frequent delays and originating as a PlayStation Move-only game, Until Dawn defied expectations in 2016 and remains one of the most highly-regarded horror games of recent years. Supermassive has continued to release horror titles since its success with Until Dawn , but none have quite had the scope as The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Med
It has an epic story and many characters to interact with as players complete side stories for NPCs and free the islands from Mongolian control. The duels are epic and Ghost of Tsushima arguably handles stealth better than the Assassin’s Creed ser
This unforgiving turn-based strategy series was adored by its niche audience back in the ’90s. After 2001, the franchise dropped off the map for more than ten years until 2012’s X-COM: Enemy Unknown . The title received more attention than usual for the genre and managed to break into the mainstream audience. A sequel came out in 2016, ratcheting up the difficulty and arsenal of weaponry. Rarely do such difficult games garner such a player base, but this decade has seen intense challenges gain a new appreciation with this series and games like Dark Sou
His grand comeback came in 2017 in the form of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy , complete remakes of the original three masterpieces. Except for the radical facelift, everything else remained nearly identical to the originals. The Crash train shows no signs of slowing down now, with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled coming out to rave revi
Despite this flaw, it still manages to be one of the finest action games of the generation. It wasn’t until Metal Gear Survive when the final nail was hammered into the coffin. A comeback is always possible, but Konami shows no signs of pursuing the franchise any furt
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge is one of the most highly-regarded original Xbox exclusives, offering impressive visuals, a compelling single-player campaign, and a multiplayer mode that was one of the first games to really take advantage of Xbox Live’s online multiplayer capabilities. Unfortunately, it’s been 17 years since the launch of Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge , and besides the game being playable on Xbox One through the Xbox backward compatibility program , it hasn’t received much attention from Microsoft. Needless to say, many fans would be happy to see a next-gen take on Crimson Skies that could take advantage of modern graphics and gameplay featu
Nintendo proved with Super Mario Odyssey that there is still plenty that the 3D platformer genre has to offer, and it would be nice to see Banjo-Kazooie get a modern update as well. Rare doesn’t even have to be the studio to make the game. Microsoft has plenty of studios under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella that could be given the reigns of Banjo-Kazooie – whatever it takes to see the bird and bear make their long-awaited, and much-deserved, comeb
